About us

The Club has around 6 kilometres of ideal rowing water stretching from Blackstone down to Lincomb weir.

The Club welcomes rowers of all ages and experience. Learn to row courses are held regularly allowing those new to the sport to be coached in stable boats and then progress on to become members of the Club’s junior, senior or masters squads.

Our Mission & Values

There is an excellent fleet of boats to suit all forms of rowing and sculling which are housed in a two story boathouse on the west bank of the river. On the first floor of the boat house there is a function room with bar, meeting room, kitchen and a fully equipped gym.

The club has over the years, produced many successful oarsmen and women. A world champion masters sculler, two Commonwealth Games medallists, national champions at junior and senior levels and crews competing at Henley Royal Regatta. All members are encouraged to participate in the regular racing events organised by the Club, either competing or volunteering as marshals, caterers, umpires or general helpers.

The Club is affiliated to British Rowing and is overseen by a Management Committee in line with a written constitution.

SBC has been at the heart of the local community since it’s foundation in 1876. The club works in close partnership with the sports association, our neighbours, the local university and local businesses who are all very supportive of our ambition to provide accessible membership for anyone who wishes to row.
